Gannett Foundation awards $5,000 to 2-1-1 Brevard

gannett grantThe Gannett Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to 2-1-1 Brevard Inc.
The money will pay for development of an Android app for the Community Resource Database, which includes almost 2,500 services available to Brevard residents. An iPhone app previously was launched with a grant from the Boeing Co.
The Gannett grant also will contribute to improvements for software used by helpline specialists.
Gannett Co. Inc. is the parent company of Florida Today.

Donoghue reaches milestone of 30 years at 2-1-1 Brevard

Libby DonoghueLibby Donoghue will mark 30 years as executive director of 2-1-1 Brevard on Dec. 28. Under her leadership, the agency grew from a volunteer-based crisis line into the first 2‑1‑1 call center in Florida and the seventh in the United States.
2-1-1 Brevard is accredited by both the American Association of Suicidology and the Association of Information and Referral Systems and is a member of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Network.
This year, 2-1-1 Brevard was named Florida Today VRA Organization of the Year. 2-1-1 Brevard also received a Central Florida Humanitarian Award from Space Coast Daily and a Brevard County Sheriff’s Public Safety Award in 2016.
Donoghue is a graduate of the University of Tennessee.

2-1-1 Brevard named Florida Today Organization of Year

VRAIt’s been a big year for 2-1-1 Brevard, including being named Florida Today VRA Organization of the Year on Nov. 17. The award recognized the core work of 2-1-1 staff in logging 42,000 calls last year.
But it also recognized our emphasis on magnifying impact in Brevard with newer programs and partnerships to improve the lives of:

  • Veterans (Brevard Veterans Resource Network)
  • Families with young children (Help Me Grow)
  • People who are homeless or at risk of homelessness (Brevard Homeless Coalition)
  • People with medically related needs (Parrish Community Health Navigator)
  • All residents of the county in crisis events such as a hurricane (Brevard Emergency Management Citizen Information Hotline)

November impact: Third of callers want help with basic needs

Snapshot_November_20162-1-1 Brevard helpline specialists logged 2,983 calls in November. Almost 1,000 callers wanted help with basic needs, while nearly 300 had needs related to mental health and substance abuse. Click here to view the report.
